Greenya Colada Smoothie Recipe
If you hate vegetables, but love tropical cocktails, then we've got the perfect smoothie recipe for you to get your greens in. This delicious recipe was invented by my brother-in-law, Marco, so we call it the Marco Special around our house. But a more descriptive title would be the Greenya Colada. It combines the delicious, sweet coconut-y flavor of a piña colada with a healthy dose of greens to keep your body running optimally. It's pretty easy to throw together, and we've been enjoying them several times a week. As much as I promote healthy eating, the truth is I'm severely vegetable-challenged. I've honestly never gone through so much spinach, celery, and cucumber in my whole life, so it feels good to know I'm upping my intake of healthy green stuff. Keep reading for the full recipe below.

The great thing about this recipe is that's its pretty easy to learn by heart. That makes throwing it together on a regular basis a breeze. You can definitely tweak it to your taste, but I've found this combination just right to make 2 delicious mason jars full of smoothie - one for me and one for Adam. I use the rule of 3's to make it easy to remember. There are 3 basic categories of ingredients with 3 ingredients each - the vegetables, the fruits, the liquids (plus "the extras").
Greenya Colada Smoothie Recipe
The Vegetables
- 3 stalks of celery
- 3" of cucumber
- 1 cup frozen spinach
The Fruits
- 1 banana
- 1/2 cup frozen pineapple chunks
- 1/2 cup frozen mango chunks
The Liquids
- 1/2 cup pineapple juice
- 1/2 cup coconut milk
- 1/2 cup water
The Extras
- 1"-2" chunk of ginger, peeled
- 1 scoop protein powder
Mix all the ingredients in a blender (we use the Vitamix), and blend until smooth (about 30 seconds to 1 minute). And voila! The Greenya Colada is born.
